They play! It's a tricky concept for us as adults to get our heads around, but there are so many well-researched reasons to incorporate play into our classroom programme. Here's a rather lengthy article to start the year with, and to provide some background to 'play' in the classroom. And here's a much shorter (one page!) article that might help you interpret our different play opportunities.

Is this the correct attachment, the bottom line implies this relates to 'preschool'???

Yip - that's the right attachment! 'Preschool' in this case referring to ages 4-6, as many countries don't start 'school' until the age of 6. We've got a few articles on starting age too, but thought it was a bit early in the year to share those! :o)

The second article is really helpful when you see all the different learning elements broken down like that.

It's quite surprising, isn't it?! No wonder they're tired at the end of the day! :o)

Sounds great! Aleks comes home tired but happy and wants to go to school the next day (which says a lot!). "Playing is actually learning mummy" he tells me.

That's very cute! Aleks especially loves playing with the dirt - I'm sure you've noticed that! We're working on getting a sandpit set up in our outdoor area which will hopefully help to keep people a bit cleaner. :o)

I haven't read the articles yet, but I don't need convincing that children learn through play and that 'play' really is a child's 'work'. So a big shout out to the amazing teachers at WM school. I wish more parents (society in general really!) would stop putting so much 'academic' pressure on kids and stop rushing them through their childhood. They're so little still and there's so much time left to be an adult. Let the children play! All the way!
