Welcome to Week 4 already!! We are really enjoying settling into our routines and getting well under way with our programmes.
Literacy We are well underway with our Literacy programme and have begun to send home our 'Home Literacy' books. These will take the place of a reading book and instead will follow up on work done in class. The activities may include learning songs, sounds, practising letter formation or learning to spell and write 'heart' words. Please look out for these in your child's reading packet and please make sure they come back to school each day. Thanks so much for your support with this. It is great to see the children sharing their learning with you at home. Junior Duathlon Just a reminder that our Junior Duathlon is happening on Monday 2nd March with the postponement date on Wednesday 4th March. Our races will be first up and we will split into waves. We will race in our pods. Please make sure that you name your child's scooter and helmet. On the morning please make your way to the front court to see Mrs Beaumont and she will help you find where to put your child's scooter. Ako Conversations These are coming up on Thursday 12 March, Tuesday 17 March and Wednesday 18 March. These are meetings that we have together with you and your child to check in to see how everything is going and a chance to set some goals for the rest of the term. A link was emailed out from the office with the details of how to book a time with your child's pod teacher. We look forward to seeing you all at these evenings. Swimming We will continue to swim on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon as long as the weather permits us to do so. Please make sure all of your child's belongings are named. Library Just a reminder that our Library day is Tuesday and this is the day that we return our books and issue new ones. There is always a box out in the class if you would like to return them earlier. Parent Survey If you took part in our transition week last year we would love to hear some feedback from you. Please fill out the following survey, we would love to hear from you. Parent Survey Partnership Workshops Keep an eye out on our school Facebook for information on our Partnership Evenings. The next one is on BYOD at our school. Wow, lots of information, sorry! Have a great weekend. Nicole, Sonja, Thelma and Jo (And Ally) [email protected]

Welcome back everybody it is so lovely to see you all again and to meet new faces.
An extra special welcome to all of our new students Oscar, Kaiden, Laila, Isabelle, Hugo, Archie, Sebastian, Clara, Jaxon, Charli, Himari, Kate, Jake, Carlos, Connor and Sophia. We hope you have an amazing time in Kōwhai. We are super lucky to have Ms Ally Colton all the way from America here in Kōwhai to teach with us for Term 1. She is working alongside Sonja to learn all about the New Zealand Curriculum and how New Zealand schools function. Please make her feel welcome! Swimming Our swimming days this term are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure the children have all of their things named and in a separate swimming bag. While you are checking if everything is named can you please have a look for Carlos' shorts. They went missing after swimming on Wednesday and may have ended up in someone else's bag by mistake. Library We will be going to the Library on a Tuesday now, please make sure any library books are in the reading packets on a Tuesday ready to be returned. Literacy We are beginning to start our Literacy Programme next week. We will be sorting children into groups and looking at how we can best meet their needs. Powerful Connections This takes over from Meet the Teacher. This year it will be held on in Kōwhai Wednesday the 19th of February over two sessions. The first session is 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm and the second is 5:15 pm - 6:15 pm. We will be discussing how our programme works and our daily timetable - similar to our New Entrant Presentation. All About Me Next week we are focusing on 'All About Me' on Friday we would really love all children to bring along a bag with 3 things that are special to them (for example favourite book, toy, photos of special places etc). These will go home again on Friday. To make our classroom feel like a home we would really love you to send a framed photo of your child so that we can display it on our mantlepieces for the year. If you do not have a frame we have a few spares in Kōwhai. These will get returned at the end of the year. Duathlon We are sending out a notice today all about our Junior Duathlon. Please have a look and return the notice if you are available to help. Keep Monday 2nd of March free so you can come along and cheer on your little athletes! Book Club Keep an eye out for the Lucky Book Club that came out today. If you are wanting to purchase from this you can return it to the office or order on line. All of the details will be on the form. Wow, that was a long KIT notice! These come out every fortnight so make sure you take the time to read them because they contain lots of great information about what is coming up! Have a great weekend Nicole, Sonja, Thelma and Jo [email protected] |
