Kia Ora,
A big welcome to the Kōwhai Community to Katie, Harry, Sam and Madison, we are so glad you are here. Fete A massive thank you, to you all for your contributions and help with the West Melton Fete. It was such an amazing day and our Mystery Bottle Stall was a great hit! We sold all our bottles very quickly and we saw lots of people coming back for more bottles. Thanks to all of the parents that helped out on our stall or at many of the other stalls around the fete. There was such a great community feel to the day and the children were buzzing when they got back to school on Monday. Science We are so lucky to have Dr Smalley visiting us on a Friday for Science. Last week we learnt lots about the planets and space. This week we have been discovering about wheels and why they were invented. Gumboot/PJ Day It was great to see lots of you in your PJs and gumboots on Friday, thanks for your gold coin donations which will be going to support the, "I am Hope" campaign for Mental Health. Duathlon Unfortunately the weather was not on our side today so we were unable to have our Duathlon. It has been postponed until next Thursday 11 April. Entertainment Books Keep an eye out on your child's reading packet for a notice from the FoWMs about the sale of Entertainment Books. Alphabet books Thank you to those families who have cut out and stuck in all of the alphabet songs into their child's alphabet books! These are super helpful to help children learn their alphabet letters, sounds and words that start with that letter. As a next step it would be great to see some pictures and drawings on the blank page next to the poem of each letter to help reinforce each letter of the alphabet. This will help children associate things that are important to them with the letters of the alphabet. If your child is confident with the names and sounds of the alphabet you could use the spare page as a beginning dictionary and include words that your child would like to spell. If you have any questions about these books please feel free to come and see your child's pod teacher. End of the Day help Sometimes at the end of the day we are super busy trying to get everyone packed up ready for home and we don't get a chance to tidy up our outside area. If you happen to be waiting outside Kōwhai at the end of the day and have a spare moment or two we would really appreciate some help with putting the covers on the sandpits, and sweeping up some of the sand. There will be brooms out by the door for you to use (or we would love any donated old brooms!) and it would be greatly appreciated!! Communication Because we are sending out our K.I.T. notice fortnightly, some important information may come out by email. Please regularly check your emails so that you have the most up to date information and you can stay informed. If you are not getting emails, please check in with the office to confirm that they have the correct address. By liking the West Melton School Facebook page you can also receive regular updates on what is happening at school! Seesaw Just a reminder to those who haven't signed up already! How to sign up:
This will be our last K.I.T. notice before the holidays and we would like to take the chance to thank you all for your support this term. We feel very lucky to teach your children and love being part of such a supportive community. Have a wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all again next term! (After next week of course!) Have a great break Thelma, Sonja, Julia, Jeanette and Jo [email protected]
